More rain for Mallorca

Close to four inches of rain fell over 24 hours during the storm that passed over Mallorca last Monday & Tuesday (3rd/4th May). It left behind floods and road closures, landslides and felled trees.

In the Palma area, theTorrent Gros and Es Molinar rivers burst their banks, causing flooding and road closures. North Mallorca was also badly hit with flooding as the drains struggled to cope with the sudden and heavy downpours, and a wall collapsed on to parked cars in Can Picafort. Whilst the water levels have now receded, the roads agency is recommending extra care on mountain roads. Some high speed maritime links between the Balaeric islands and the mainland were delayed, as ships waited for improvements in sea conditions.

The weather seems to have righted itself now, and after a brief rain shower this morning, the skies are brightening and further improvements are expected by the weekend.

Bogus charity scam warning - Tourists on the Costa Blanca caught out by bogus charities

SEVERAL tourists and locals in Jalón on the Costa Blanca were shocked to find that what they believed was a bona fide charity, to which many had made donations, was in fact a scam.

Many had been caught out by the scammers as they wandered around the village targeting mainly tourists and British pensioners.

Carrying paperwork claiming they were deaf and speech impaired, with apparent charity registration details, people were urged to add their names to the charity list and make a donation there and then.

It only became apparent the women, of Romanian nationality, were keeping the money for themselves after a bar owner saw them speed away in car with two male accomplices.
