Are airport duties destroying the low-cost flight market?

Are airport duties destroying the low-cost flight market?

Easyjet have blamed the increases in Airport Passenger Duty (APD) for their decision to cut flights out of Luton by a quarter. Easyjet have also announced that it has decided to cease it's operations at East Midlands airport. There is also talk of staff reductions at Stansted, Newcastle, Bristol and Belfast airports.

The airline said "APD in it's current form is particularly damaging to regional airports which do not benefit from transfer passengers for whom APD is not applicable. It is a pity that the Government is not basing the APD purely on emissions only but is instead making it a 'holiday' tax.

Villa Holidays spokesperson said that although there will be a reduction in the number of flights, the number of actual occupied seats would still be available, however this does mean that passengers looking to book direct with the owners of holiday villas will need to be much more flexible with their flight dates and times.

Thinking of renting a villa in Spain this Xmas?

If it's your first time in Spain over the Xmas period, then you'll notice that Christmas in Spain is not such a big commercial affair as it is in other parts of Europe and the US. Most shops, streets and houses wait until early December before displaying Xmas lights, which is much different to the UK and USA.

If you are planning on putting up a Christmas tree in your rented villa or apartment, make sure that you have the owners permission first. Most houses in Spain do not put their trees up until the middle of December.

If you are eligible, why not take part in Spain's biggest lottery which takes place over several hours from the 22nd December. This lottery draw is called El Gordo, or The Big One!

Many holiday villas in spain have central heating so when those nights get chilly, you can be cozy and warm BUT unlike in the UK, you can generally look forward to a bright and crisp following day.

The Spanish property market shows no sign of recovery....yet

Recent figures released by the Spanish government suggest that the Spanish property market has not yet begun it's recovery unlike other European countries.

The figures released do however report a slow-down in the decline of mortages offered and the number of houses repossed throughout June/July has decreased.

Experts predict that Spain and in particular the holiday home rental market (sales of) should see things improving before the end of 2009. Portugal, Italy and France have all reported that they believe the housing market crises to be over.

Confidence is high for a good year in 2010 for the holiday property
market and sales of apartments in Spain.

Renting a villa in Nerja? Frigiliana is a must to visit

For those lucky enough to be stayin in a Nerja villa or apartment, don't forget to visit the small white village of Frigiliana during your holiday. Most holiday rentals in Nerja will have views of this lovely village located just 6km up the hill, buried in the mountains.

Frigiliana is on of Andalucia's prettiest villages and because of this has an ever growing foreign population. If you decided to hire a car while on your villa holiday in Nerja then you'll find Frigiliana just on the other side of the motorway and it is well signposted. If you don't have a car, don't worry as there are lots of busses which leave from the Nerja bus station.

If you can do your research of the village before, thats great, however if not, don't worry as there is a great tourist information office located in the town. Frigiliana has lots of cafes and bars, so enjoy your walk and then enjoy your rest while looking at the beautiful surroundings.

Holiday villas in Frigiliana are a great way to explore the village however be warned, this town is not suitable for thoes who are a little unsteady on their legs as tiny streets can be very steep in places.

For those who want the best of both worlds, including pretty villages and sand and sea, then our advice is to stay in an apartment or villa in the Costa del Sol town of Nerja and visit Frigiliana on a day trip. Nerja offers holiday makers a great family beach at Burriana beach, the Nerja Caves which are just 4km east of the town, great nightlife and restaurants - remember to check out the old town and see the Balcon de Europa which is a man-made promanade stretching out into th sea which gives stunning views all along the coast.

For further details of holiday rentals and apartments in Nerja, visit the Villa Holiday website to book direct with the owner.
